Today, we delve into a bizarre case involving a former employee of Walt Disney World. Michael Scheuer recently received a three-year prison sentence after hacking into restaurant menus at Disney, changing prices, and even adding profanity. Now, these menu alterations never made it public, but they raised serious concerns about food allergens that could have endangered visitors.

Scheuer, who was fired shortly after returning from paternity leave, argued with a supervisor, which led him to manipulate the menu systems over a span of three months. In one instance, he replaced “shellfish” with “hellfish,” and jokingly lowered a drink price while altering food allergen information.

Federal investigators connected the dots and discovered that Scheuer had blocked access to several Disney employees’ accounts and even visited one employee's home. Interestingly, his lawyer claims he wasn’t trying to cause harm but rather grab Disney's attention during a personal crisis.

As acting U.S. attorney Gregory W. Kehoe noted, Scheuer’s actions seemed fueled by a mental health episode. Initially facing a much longer sentence, Scheuer expressed remorse, leading the judge to impose a lesser sentence of three years. It’s a cautionary tale about how personal issues can lead to unexpected and dangerous choices.
