Welcome back to Tech Brief, I’m your host, Sarah Chen. Today, Apple Music just made it easier to jump ship from other streaming services. A new built-in transfer tool lets you bring over songs, albums, and playlists directly into Apple Music—no third-party apps required. According to Apple’s support page, “You can transfer your songs, albums, and playlists from other music services to Apple Music, but what you can transfer varies by service.” For now, it’s only live in Australia and New Zealand, with no word on a wider rollout.
To use it, open Settings on iOS or iPadOS under Apps > Music, or dive into the Apple Music app’s settings on Android or the web. Tap “Transfer Music from Other Music Services,” log in, and choose what you want to move. If Apple Music can’t find an exact match, you’ll see a “Some Music Needs Review” alert and get 30 days to pick replacements. Apple teamed up with the makers of SongShift to build this feature, though the standalone SongShift app still supports transfers between services like Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, and Pandora. That’s your one-minute update—thanks for listening to Tech Brief.
