Today: Bill Gates has accused Elon Musk of “killing the world’s poorest children” by effectively shutting down USAID through Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, nicknamed Doge. Gates says abrupt cuts left life-saving food and medicines to expire in warehouses and risked a resurgence of measles, HIV, and polio. “The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one,” he told the Financial Times.

Gates pointed out that Musk canceled grants to a hospital in Gaza Province, Mozambique—mistakenly believing US aid was funding Hamas—which prevented mothers from transmitting HIV to their babies. “I’d love for him to go in and meet the children that have now been infected with HIV because he cut that money,” Gates added.

In response, Musk admitted he sometimes gets details wrong. Meanwhile, Gates announced he will spend nearly his entire fortune—more than $200 billion—over the next 20 years and close the Gates Foundation in 2045, hoping to “have maximum impact” on global health, development, and education.
