Hello and welcome. In a wide-ranging CBS Sunday Morning interview, former President Bill Clinton spoke with Tracy Smith about what he sees as President Trump’s most alarming moves—and what’s holding him back. “When the commander-in-chief starts to ignore court orders,” Clinton warned, “you’re flirting with a constitutional crisis.” Yet Clinton argues that America’s system of checks and balances—and a vigilant press—have so far kept the president from consolidating power.
On the Democratic front, Clinton praised his party’s unified resistance. “Our job is to remind people why we have institutions in the first place,” he said. He believes lawmakers and activists have successfully pushed back against executive overreach.
Clinton also opened up about his own recent health scare, telling Smith, “I’m feeling great—any day with family is a good one.” And when asked about his successor in the Oval Office, he spoke warmly of Joe Biden: “He’s steady, he’s experienced, and he’s doing the job we sent him to do.”
That’s our look at Bill Clinton’s take on Trump, the courts, and the state of our democracy. Thanks for listening.
