Bluesky Unveils Blue Check Verification: A New Era of Digital Trust in Social Media

Welcome to today's podcast episode! Big news from the social media world: Bluesky has officially launched its blue check verification feature. This new functionality aims to ensure that notable accounts are legitimate, similar to the original blue check on Twitter before its decline.

Bluesky will initially team up with a select group of "Trusted Verifiers," which are independent organizations responsible for verifying accounts linked to their teams. For instance, companies can verify their public relations members, establishing a clearer line of communication for users seeking reliable sources of information.

The platform’s moderation team will review each verification to ensure authenticity, enhancing user trust. Previously, users could verify their accounts by linking a domain they own, but this added visual cue is designed to further combat impersonation and misinformation from public figures.

Currently, Bluesky has seen around 270,000 accounts linking their usernames to websites. As the Bluesky team noted in a blog post, “Domain handles continue to be an important part of verification... we’ve heard from users that a larger visual signal would be useful." While the blue check application process isn’t open just yet, Bluesky plans to introduce a request form in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving platform!
