Welcome to Business Brief for today. Ahead of July’s major trade deadline, American CEOs are feeling surprisingly upbeat about the economy. According to the latest CEO Confidence Index survey, conducted June 3 and 4, fewer leaders now foresee a downturn. Back in April, 62 percent predicted a recession within six months. Today, “less than half of that, or 30 percent,” forecast either a mild or severe recession. Meanwhile, optimism is on the rise: 40 percent of CEOs now expect the U.S. economy to grow, up from just 23 percent two months ago. And more than half—51 percent—said they expect “conditions to continue to improve as trade negotiations settle.” With U.S. and China restarting talks in London and tariffs set to resume on July 9, CEOs appear confident the sidelines of trade tensions will clear. That’s your quick look at CEO sentiment—thanks for listening.
