Hello and welcome to today’s dining briefing. Across Manhattan and beyond, a new dinner companion has arrived: GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. They’re shrinking appetites, and reshaping group meals.
Take lawyer Michael Foote in the East Village, who suddenly found himself “chowing down” alone as his friends on GLP-1s nibbled baby bites. He laughs, “I am a 6-foot-4, 210-pound guy… but I love to eat.”
In London, talent agent Will Farmer discovered he could only manage “a quarter of a Scotch egg” at a ten-course tasting. Now he opts for family-style or small plates so leaving food behind feels less awkward.
New York publicist Lauren Wire jokes with chefs and dates: “I need a box because I’m on Ozempic.” She loves that leftovers stretch her dollars and her meal.
For many, these drugs have lifted the stress of overeating. Content creator Jackson Lemay says the “food noise” he once obsessed over is gone, and dining out has never been more enjoyable.
That’s our snapshot of the Ozempic effect on group dinners. Thanks for listening!
