Hello and welcome to today’s podcast. Elon Musk recently told CBS that “It’s not like I agree with everything the administration does,” referring to the Trump White House. Musk, who’s donated over $260 million to Trump’s reelection, criticized the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” warning it could add $4 trillion to the deficit. “You know, there are things that I don’t entirely agree with,” he said, admitting he’s “stuck in a bind” between speaking out and being blamed for every policy. As head of the Department of Government Efficiency—DOGE—Musk pushed deep cost cuts, sparking protests and Tesla boycotts. He insists DOGE has become “a whipping boy for everything.” Meanwhile Tesla’s profits plunged 71 percent in Q1, and shareholders urged Musk to refocus on the company. Though he claims he’ll scale back his government role to advise part-time, Musk seems determined to retain his policy influence without taking credit—or blame. That’s the story for today.
