Welcome back to the show. Today we’re exploring Patreon, the platform that’s turning fans into patrons and helping creators make a living. As CBS Sunday Morning reports, “Patreon is giving artists a safety net,” allowing musicians, podcasters and cartoonists to earn steady monthly incomes. Since its launch in 2013, co-founders Jack Conte and Sam Yam have grown the site to support over 100,000 creators and 3 million patrons. Musician Amanda Palmer reflects, “My fans have more power than any label ever did,” showing how even a one-dollar pledge can fund an album. Comic artist Zach Weinersmith adds, “This isn’t just money—it’s direct support for creativity.” In return for their monthly pledges, patrons receive early releases, behind-the-scenes access and live Q&A sessions. Yet success comes with a responsibility: as one creator warns, “You have to keep delivering value.” In the new creator economy, passion pays—and thanks to Patreon, making a living from your art is finally within reach.
