Welcome to today’s episode, where we discuss a major update in the Epic Games saga. Epic Games is set to bring Fortnite back to the US App Store using a developer account registered in Sweden. CEO Tim Sweeney shared this plan following a recent court ruling that prevents Apple from collecting fees on purchases made outside of apps. In Sweeney's words, Fortnite will be returning to the US App Store “next week,” though it's important to note that Apple has appealed this ruling.
Apple removed Epic’s developer account back in 2020 after a dispute over an in-app payment system, leading to a protracted legal battle. Sweeney confirmed that they have been in talks with Apple regarding this process and noted the creation of the Sweden account last year to facilitate the launch of the Epic Games Store in Europe.
However, he also cautioned that Fortnite may not be available on iOS for several days, emphasizing, “We’re working as hard as possible and aren’t certain what day it will be ready.”
Lastly, in the meantime, Fortnite’s latest season has begun, featuring a Star Wars theme! We’ll keep you updated as more news unfolds on this front.
