Welcome to today’s podcast. We’ll be discussing a troubling incident that occurred in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where six men face charges related to forcibly removing a woman from a town hall meeting. According to the Coeur d’Alene Prosecutor’s Office, these men are charged with battery and false imprisonment after Teresa Borrenpohl, a former Democratic candidate, was heckling speakers at a Republican event in February.
Sheriff Robert Norris intervened, reportedly threatening Ms. Borrenpohl with arrest and pepper spray, and then directed two men, dressed in tactical attire, to drag her out of the auditorium. These individuals were identified as personnel from Lear Asset Management, a private security firm.
After this incident, the City of Coeur d’Alene revoked Lear’s business license for violating uniform regulations. Paul Trouette, CEO of Lear, contended in a statement, “We believe these charges are false and should have never been made.”
In response to her treatment, Ms. Borrenpohl has taken steps to file a civil lawsuit, stating, “Town halls are intended to foster conversation and discourse... I am deeply alarmed that private security dragged me out for simply exercising my fundamental right of free speech.”
Stay tuned for more updates on this case as it develops.
