Welcome to Career Wise. Today we’re talking about the best way to quit your job without burning bridges. Did you know the average person changes jobs every two years and nine months? Over a 40-year career that adds up to about 15 resignations. So it pays to leave on a good note. Melody Wilding, author of Managing Up, reminds us that “a lot of people boomerang back to a company, team, or manager in a fairly short time.” Those strong relationships could mean a future reference, a LinkedIn recommendation, or even referrals to new roles. But breaking the news isn’t always easy. You may be wrestling with resentment, frustration, or burnout, and the desire to be diplomatic can feel at odds with your own emotions. As Wilding says, “Sometimes those two things can be at odds.” Take a deep breath, plan your conversation carefully, and aim for honesty wrapped in tact. That way, you leave doors open and relationships intact. Thanks for listening to Career Wise.
