Honoring John Brenkus the Visionary Who Merged Science with Sport

Today we remember John Brenkus, the dynamic creator and host of the Emmy-winning show Sport Science. Since its debut on Fox Sports Network in 2007 and later on ESPN, Brenkus merged the excitement of athletics with the rigor of physics, winning six Emmys along the way. From explaining how golfers drive balls extraordinary distances to showing snowboarders’ quad flips generating four Gs, his segments turned science into pure fun. He once quipped, "You could, theoretically, let go of the bat .001 seconds before contact and the ball will travel just as far." He also authored the best-seller The Perfection Point, exploring the theoretical limits of human performance. But behind the fast-paced experiments and playful demonstrations, Brenkus was private about his personal struggles. Brinx TV announced that John "had been battling depression," and tragically, he lost his fight on Saturday at age 53. John Brenkus was more than a TV host: he was a bridge between science and sport, inspiring fans to see athletic feats in a new light. He will be deeply missed.
