Welcome to today’s podcast! Big news for Kindle app users on iOS: in what's considered the most significant update in over a decade, Amazon has introduced a "Get Book" button. This change is in response to a recent court ruling that allows developers to link directly to external purchase pages, avoiding Apple's previous restrictions.
For years, Kindle users couldn’t buy e-books directly in the app, as Apple enforced strict guidelines that required purchases through their system—tapping into a hefty 30% cut. Now, with the new orange button, users can seamlessly navigate to Amazon’s site, where the Kindle edition of the book is pre-selected for purchase. Once bought, the book syncs automatically to your Kindle library.
An Amazon spokesperson mentioned, “We regularly make improvements to our apps… to provide the most convenient experience possible.”
While Apple has appealed the court ruling, they’re currently complying, meaning this change could pave the way for similar updates from other companies like Spotify. Stay tuned for more tech updates!
