Hello and welcome to Tech Talk Tips, I’m your host. Today I’m sharing Marcus Noble’s guide on giving technical talks. First, “talk about what you’re interested in and enjoy,” because your passion is contagious. Use inclusive language—say “y’all” instead of “guys” and avoid words like “basically.” Keep slides clean: big fonts, no paragraphs, and only a few lines of code, highlighting key parts. Prepare for tech issues: have offline slides, test fullscreen, and skip live demos. Arrive early with adapters, set devices to Do Not Disturb, and stay hydrated. Don’t forget to “go to the toilet before your talk.” On stage, use a remote, move around, and avoid staring at slides. Repeat questions out loud to buy time. End with a “thank you” and let the organizer handle Q&A. Finally, “celebrate every talk.”
