Hello and welcome to Workplace Weekly. Today we’re diving into a new Gallup study on remote work. The headline? Fully remote employees lead the pack in engagement at 31 percent, compared with 23 percent for both hybrid and on-site workers who can go remote, and just 19 percent for those tied to the office.
But here’s the twist: remote workers report lower overall well-being than their hybrid or partially remote colleagues. Clark Lowe, president of The O’Connor Group, argues this isn’t a failure of remote work but of leadership. As he puts it, “Autonomy without structure? That’s a fast track to burnout and disconnection.” He calls for intentional leadership—regular check-ins, clear goals, and a culture that ensures people feel seen, even from afar.
Meanwhile, Bolt PR’s Laura Murphy says the secret ingredient is “intentional flexibility.” She loves the “airy freedom to step away” for a kid’s school play or a midday dog walk.
That’s it for today’s snapshot of how work location shapes our lives. Thanks for listening!
