Hello and welcome to this Tech Minute. Today we’re talking about Apple’s ChatGPT rival and the uncertain future of Siri. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is internally testing large language models with 3, 7, 33 and 150 billion parameters. The biggest model “approaches the quality of recent ChatGPT rollouts,” but it still has a tendency to hallucinate and is held back by “philosophical differences” among executives. Meanwhile, AI teams in Zurich are building a new foundation for Siri to replace its patchwork architecture, and an internal chatbot called Knowledge is being tested to fetch and synthesize live web data. There’s no clear launch date, and Apple is unlikely to announce a roadmap at WWDC after last year’s delayed promises. In the meantime, Google’s Gemini could arrive in iOS 26 as a Siri option, and Apple is in talks with Perplexity to bring their AI into Siri and Safari. Stay tuned for more updates.
