Reddit Reveals Tariff Impact as Shoppers Spotlight Surging Prices at Big-Box Stores

Welcome back to the Minute Brief. Today we’re talking about how shoppers on Reddit are turning up the volume on price hikes at big-box stores—and it’s all thanks to Trump’s tariffs. On Walmart’s subreddit, users have posted side-by-side images of price tags showing a Jurassic Park T.-rex toy jumping from a sale price of twenty dollars to fifty-five dollars. Elsewhere a charging cable climbed from nine ninety-nine to seventeen ninety-nine and a sheet cake pan sprang from twenty-four ninety-nine to thirty-nine ninety-nine.

These simple visuals cut through the political jargon by proving one thing: prices are going up. Walmart CEO Doug McMillon admitted on the latest earnings call, “We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible, but given the magnitude of the tariffs…it isn’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins.”

And it’s not just Walmart. Best Buy, Costco, Mattel, Macy’s, and Nike say tariffs will force them to raise prices too.

That’s your one-minute snapshot—thanks for listening.
