Revolutionizing Convenience: The Future of AI with PhoneAgent

Welcome to a quick Tech Minute. Today we’re looking at a new AI agent for iPhone built by coder Rounak Jain ahead of Apple’s own rollout. Agentic AI, as the article explains, can “take actions on our behalf” instead of simply responding with advice. Jain’s project, called PhoneAgent, was born at an OpenAI hackathon and is “experimental software that can get things wrong sometimes.” Yet it offers a glimpse of the future. With PhoneAgent you can, via voice or text, ask your phone to take a photo, share it with a friend, draft an email, or even book an Uber to your flight’s terminal. System tasks like opening Control Center or turning on the flashlight also work with a single command. The setup requires Xcode, GitHub, and a few cents in OpenAI credits, but once installed you’ll see notifications and follow-up command support. While still buggy and slow, PhoneAgent shows how Siri or Gemini might evolve—“imagine being able to check where your next meeting is and get directions there with a single command.” The question now: how much will we trust AI with our calendars and credit cards?
