Revolutionizing Storage: The Future of Liquid-Cooled SSDs at GTC 2025

Welcome back to TechFlow, I’m your host, Jenna Ellis. Today, we’re diving into a bold demo from Solidigm at GTC 2025: liquid-cooled SSDs. Yes, you heard that right—cold plates for flash storage.

As Cody Noland, Solidigm’s Senior Thermal Mechanical Engineer, puts it, “We’re rethinking how storage fits into the thermal equation.” With AI servers shifting entirely to liquid cooling, SSDs need new solutions. Cody’s team built a reference design that uses a custom cold plate pressed directly onto the SSD controller, shaving off up to 5 °C at the silicon junction.

Why does this matter? Lower temperatures mean more consistent performance under heavy AI loads. “We saw a 20 percent boost in sustained throughput,” Cody explains, “just by optimizing heat transfer.” The demo also highlights leak-proof seals and precision-machined mounting brackets for reliable, maintenance-free operation.

Liquid-cooled SSDs could be a game-changer for data centers hungry for every watt of efficiency. That’s all for today’s episode of TechFlow. Stay cool, and stay tuned for more cutting-edge tech news!
