Welcome to today's episode! We’re diving into the exciting news about Slate Auto, a new electric vehicle startup that’s backed by Jeff Bezos. Just last week, they announced plans to build their first model, the Slate Truck, at a former printing plant in Warsaw, Indiana. This huge 1.4 million square-foot facility will be retooled for production, moving from ink to electric trucks.
Set to launch in late 2026, the Slate Truck will start at around $27,500, before any federal tax credits. As the company states, it will be a “bare-bones EV pickup” with a range of options for customization. Customers will have a choice between two battery sizes, providing either 150 miles or 240 miles of range.
In terms of design, the Slate Truck is focused on simplicity. Expect standard roll-down windows, manually adjustable mirrors, and no infotainment system—just a docking station for your personal devices. Over 100 accessories will be available to tailor the truck to individual needs, including lift kits, vinyl wraps, and more.
So are you ready for a spartan electric pickup? Let us know what you think!
