Welcome to today’s tech update! SpaceX has just rolled out an enticing offer for new Starlink subscribers. They’re now providing a 12-month residential service plan that brings the hardware cost of the Starlink dish and router — typically priced at $349 — down to $0 in selected markets. That's right, no upfront hardware fees, and the monthly plan fees remain the same!
But here’s the catch: if you change your service address or decide to cancel, a fee equal to the hardware cost may apply, prorated based on your usage. Additionally, some areas might incur a one-time “demand surcharge” of around $100 due to high usage.
For instance, a subscriber in the Netherlands could see this deal as a win, since normally, the Standard Kit costs €349 with a monthly fee of €50. With the new commitment plan, that upfront cost vanishes!
This offer has been quietly surfacing in various countries for about a month, but now Starlink is promoting it globally, making it available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most European countries. Just a heads up, in Croatia, only the smaller Starlink Mini kit qualifies under this plan.
It seems SpaceX aims to attract more monthly users by lowering the barrier to entry, potentially offsetting any initial hardware losses. So, if you’ve been considering Starlink, it might be the perfect time to jump in!
