A recent survey from the dating app Hily reveals that over 50% of young Americans have gone on dates where their match looked different from their profile pictures. Shockingly, this discrepancy led 54% of Gen Z and 62% of millennials to end a date early or skip a second one.

As Hily explains, “For a variety of reasons, quite a few people don’t regularly update their profile pics.” Many feel uncertain about showcasing their appearance, with women often fearing judgment and men believing it doesn’t matter. Interestingly, while about 84% of women and 83% of men have updated their profiles recently, nearly 10% admit they wouldn't change their photos even if their looks changed.

Around 45% of Gen Z and 33% of millennials recognize that their profile pictures don’t fully capture their reality. This disconnect could contribute to a growing dissatisfaction with dating apps; a 2023 Pew survey shows users are split on their overall experiences. So, if you haven’t updated your dating profile lately, now might be the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning!
