Today we’re unpacking TikTok’s ‘invisible phone’ craze. TikTok user CatGPT shared a clip of a woman in line, seemingly scrolling on a completely transparent phone. The caption read, “I’m sorry, WTF is that???” In just four days, the video racked up 52 million views.
But there’s no secret prototype—just a clear piece of acrylic shaped like a handset. Called the “Methaphone,” it’s meant to trick phone addicts with the feel of a real device. “If we’re all so addicted to our phones,” CatGPT asks, “then could you potentially curb somebody’s addiction by replacing the feeling of having a phone in your pocket with something that feels exactly the same?” She admits, “Have I used my phone less in the entire week I’ve been carrying this around? Probably not.”
While transparent TVs and batteries already exist, a fully clear phone is unlikely—too expensive and easy to lose. If you want to break your screen habit, try carrying an old handset, a power bank, or even a notebook.
That’s today’s tech fix.
