Welcome to today's podcast, where we dive into the latest developments from the tech world. Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly "hell bent" on launching true augmented reality glasses before Meta can release their own version, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his recent Power On newsletter, Gurman reveals that new versions of Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality headset are seen as a significant step towards Cook's ultimate goal: lightweight AR glasses that users can wear all day.
Sources close to Apple say that creating these AR glasses is Cook's top priority. One insider noted, "Tim cares about nothing else." However, Gurman warns that it will take "many years" for these glasses to be perfected, as critical technologies like high-resolution displays and compact batteries still need to be developed.
While Meta has already prototyped their AR device named Orion, Apple is exploring competition in the smart glasses market too, potentially leveraging features from existing products. The tech community has been buzzing about Apple's rumored AR glasses, dubbed Apple Glass, for nearly a decade. As Apple moves forward, they are also working on visionOS for these future glasses, codenamed "Atlas," focusing on user feedback to refine their design.
Stay tuned as we keep you updated on this exciting area of innovation!
