Welcome to the Green Motoring Podcast. Today we’re diving into a breakthrough in waste management and renewable energy. As the host of MotorWeek reminds us, “The ultimate goal of recycling is to find a beneficial use for all of the stuff we use and discard every day.” We’ve long repurposed paper, plastics, and metals—but now America’s largest landfill operator is showing how organic waste can power our homes and vehicles.
Here’s how it works: AN anaerobic digestion process captures methane from food scraps, yard clippings, and other organic material buried in landfills. That raw biogas is cleaned and upgraded into what the industry calls renewable natural gas. Once it meets pipeline standards, it can heat houses or fuel cars and trucks just like conventional natural gas—without drilling new wells or importing foreign supplies.
By turning yesterday’s leftovers into today’s clean energy, we close the loop on recycling and cut greenhouse emissions at the same time. That’s trash transformed into gas, and a greener future for us all.
