Welcome to today's podcast, where we discuss OpenAI's latest innovation, GPT-4.1. This new flagship model is a successor to the GPT-4o and was unveiled during a livestream on Monday. OpenAI claims GPT-4.1 surpasses its predecessor in “just about every dimension,” boasting significant improvements in coding and instruction following.
One of the most remarkable features is its expanded context window, now able to handle up to one million tokens. As OpenAI noted, “We trained GPT‑4.1 to reliably attend to information across the full 1 million context length.” This is a substantial upgrade from GPT-4o’s previous limit of 128,000 tokens.
The new model also comes with more affordable options: the GPT-4.1 Mini and the ultra-lightweight GPT-4.1 Nano, which is described as the “smallest, fastest, and cheapest” model yet. Additionally, GPT-4.1 is 26 percent cheaper than the GPT-4o, which is increasingly important in today's competitive landscape.
As OpenAI phases out the GPT-4 model by April 30th, they’re transitioning focus to GPT-4.1, which is expected to offer better performance at lower costs and latency. So, stay tuned as OpenAI continues to refine and innovate in the world of AI!
