Unlocking the Power of Fasting: What 72 Hours Without Food Can Do for Your Body

Welcome to today’s episode. I’m your host, and today we’re diving into what happens when you stop eating for 72 hours, based on Dr. Eric Berg’s insights. He says, “Your body goes through three distinct stages of fasting.”

In the first 6 to 12 hours, you burn through stored glucose and drive insulin levels down. Between 12 and 24 hours, you shift into mild ketosis and start tapping into fat stores for energy.

From 24 to 48 hours, Berg notes, “Growth hormone can increase by up to 300 percent,” helping preserve muscle while you burn more fat. Cortisol rises too, directing your body to keep blood sugar steady.

Once you hit the 48 to 72-hour mark, autophagy kicks in – your cells begin a recycling process that clears out damaged proteins. Berg calls it “cellular spring cleaning.”

Potential benefits include lowered blood sugar, reduced inflammation, and enhanced mental clarity. But fasting three days isn’t for everyone—consult a healthcare professional before you try it.
