Welcome back to “Behind the Build.” Today we’ve traveled to the unassuming warehouse in Burbank where Hollywood’s most iconic spacesuits come to life. Lead fabricator Sarah Mitchell tells us, “Our job is to make the impossible look believable,” and you quickly see why. From full-body 3D scans to ensure a perfect fit, to vacuum-forming polycarbonate helmets and hand-painting every scuff and weather stain, this team treats each suit like a piece of fine art. They’ve outfitted crews in The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even the latest sci-fi thrillers. “We’ve done everything from NASA-accurate replicas to fully functional stunt suits,” Mitchell adds. Every Kevlar-reinforced glove, every gold-tinted visor, every hidden LED pulse is designed to hold up under intense lights, cameras, and action. It’s a master class in prop fabrication—and a reminder that movie magic really does start in a workshop. Thanks for listening to “Behind the Build.”
