Electric Cars Unplugged The Low Maintenance Revolution

· 01:09

|

Welcome to Charged Up, I’m your host. Today we tackle what maintenance an electric car needs. Conventional wisdom says “the only items you need to service on an electric car are the tires, wiper blades, and cabin air filters.” It’s not far from the truth—EVs have fewer moving parts than gasoline cars. No engine oil or transmission fluid, and most need no transmission at all. Brake pads last longer thanks to regenerative braking, though brake fluid checks are still required. Batteries, motors, and power electronics rarely need service. Over 100,000 miles, EVs can cost 40 percent less to maintain than comparable gas trucks, Ford reports. Watch for tire wear—EVs are heavier and may need new tires sooner. Windshield washer fluid, cabin air filters, suspension checks, and bulbs round out the list. Overall, electric cars deliver a low-maintenance experience, leaving you driving farther with fewer worries. Thanks for listening.
