Welcome to today’s episode where we’re diving into the world of gaming controllers with the new Backbone Pro. This innovative device is designed to be a versatile solution for all your gaming needs. As David Pierce from The Verge points out, “the Pro can connect to everything from a Steam Deck to an iPad to a smart TV,” making it a true universal controller.
The Backbone Pro retains the familiar design of its predecessor, the Backbone One, but now boasts a heavier, more solid feel. One of its standout features is its dual functionality: it operates in Handheld Mode, docking your smartphone, and in Wireless Mode, connecting via Bluetooth to numerous devices.
Backbone's CEO, Maneet Khaira, describes the Pro as “the controller Backbone has been trying to build for years.” It's packed with features including full-size thumbsticks, a D-pad, and a battery life of up to 40 hours. Plus, the Backbone app aims to create a seamless gaming experience across all platforms.
However, it’s important to note that it doesn’t officially support PlayStation or Nintendo Switch, which could be a drawback for some gamers. Yet, Khaira remains optimistic, believing that the Backbone Pro could be the answer to cross-platform gaming.
The Backbone Pro is currently priced at $169, but stay tuned, as this could change due to tariffs.
That’s it for today’s episode! Keep gaming, and we’ll catch you next time!
