The legendary former Apple designer admits that some of his most celebrated work came with “unintended consequences that were far from pleasant.” After 27 years shaping the iMac, iPod, and iPhone, he tells Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, “My issue is even though there was no intention, I think there was still some responsibility, and that weighs on me.”

Now at his LoveFrom studio alongside Marc Newson, Vive partners with OpenAI to create an AI-centric device designed to break our screen obsession. As he puts it, “What I find encouraging about AI is that it’s very rare to have a discussion around AI and there not to be appropriate concerns about safety.”
