The Hidden Risks of Weight Loss Wonders: Unveiling the Dark Side of Ozempic and Wegovy

Welcome to the Health Minute. Today: the ugly side of weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Once hailed as wonder drugs, many users now report “Ozempic face,” a sunken, hollowed-out appearance that accelerates aging with sagging skin and wrinkles. But semaglutide, the active ingredient, doesn’t just zap fat – it targets all fat stores, even in your face.

Dry mouth, or “xerostomia,” leaves your mouth parched and sticky. Less saliva also means more bad breath. Case reports describe a “furry”-like coating on the tongue as bacteria like Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis thrive, producing foul odors.

Worse still, delayed stomach emptying can cause nausea and vomiting, and repeated acid exposure erodes tooth enamel. Dental damage is often permanent.

To protect your mouth: drink six to eight glasses of water a day, chew sugar-free gum, consider probiotics, and stick to good oral hygiene. If you do vomit, rinse with water and wait 30 minutes before brushing. Stay healthy, stay informed.
