Welcome back to the Tech Minute podcast. Today we’re talking about Sean Hollister’s favorite gadget: the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller. As Sean puts it, “It’s the single best wireless controller I’ve ever used.” He was skeptical at first—“How could it be the ‘ultimate’ controller if it only supports a single Bluetooth device at a time?”—but he quickly changed his mind.
What makes it stand out? A rock-solid 2.4GHz wireless link that beats even Microsoft’s Xbox 360 receiver, drift-resistant Hall effect sticks, and an above-average D-pad. You can wake your Switch or Steam Deck from across the room just by shaking it, and it delivers over 33 hours of playtime before you need to recharge on its magnetic dock.
Sean’s only gripes are limited Bluetooth pairing and the need for software to remap back buttons. His verdict: if you game on PC and Switch, pick this up at around fifty dollars. For home consoles or mobile gaming, you might want something lighter.
