Hello and welcome to Pet Pulse. Today we’re talking about Amazon’s latest move into pet care. Through a new partnership with Vetsource, Amazon now offers “hundreds of prescription pet medications” for dogs and cats, from flea and tick treatments to drugs for chronic conditions. To order, simply search for the medication on Amazon, enter your prescribing veterinarian’s information at checkout, and Vetsource will dispense and ship your pet’s meds in two to six days. For first-time orders, Vetsource will contact your vet for approval, but refills “can usually be processed without additional veterinarian contact” once you have an active prescription on file. All the medications are FDA approved, and Amazon plans to add even more options over time. This launch mirrors Amazon’s human online pharmacy from 2020 and follows Walmart’s pet pharmacy, which debuted in 2019. For pet owners with mobility challenges or in rural areas, this new service brings a welcome dose of convenience. That’s it for Pet Pulse—see you next time!
