Hello and welcome to Today’s Business Brief. I’m your host. Uber is facing a full-blown revolt as it rolls out a three-day-a-week return-to-office mandate and tighter sabbatical rules. In a recent all-hands meeting, the chat exploded with frustration. One employee asked, “How is five years of service not a tenured employee? Especially when burnout is rampant in the org.” After the meeting, Chief People Officer Nikki Krishnamurthy sent a memo saying staff had “crossed an acceptable line,” though it’s unclear if anyone’s been disciplined. An anonymous staffer tells us morale has been sinking for months, from tough performance reviews to peers quitting. During the call, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi even acknowledged, “We recognize some of these changes are going to be unpopular with folks.” But that didn’t calm the crowd, and employees say there was so much chatter they couldn’t even download the chat logs. For many at Uber, the office push feels like one policy too many. Thanks for listening.
